MY IVF JOURNEYFERTILITY & IVFBLOG

After four years of consultations and research across two fertility centers, my IVF journey is finally approaching. I learned that preparing your body and mind for at least three months can significantly increase the chances of success. I’ve chosen Hospital Tunku Azizah in Kuala Lumpur, a well-regarded center I’ve been consulting with for the past 1.5 years. It’s affordable and offers top-notch care.

Hospital Tunku Azizah (HTA), Kuala Lumpur

Previously known as Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Kuala Lumpur, HTA opened in September 2019. It’s a modern, stand-alone facility dedicated to obstetrics, gynecology, and pediatrics. The hospital’s fertility clinic, A.R.T (Assisted Reproductive Technology), is located at the front lobby and rivals the comfort of private hospitals.

Why a 90-Day Preparation is Key

Did you know your egg's maturity cycle is around 90 days? I only found this out from my specialist at PPUM in 2020, and it was a real eye-opener. This cycle means the health of your eggs is influenced by how you take care of yourself in the months leading up to ovulation.

To ensure my eggs are in top shape for IVF, I’m focusing on optimizing my lifestyle. Here’s how:

Nutrition & Dietary

To ensure my eggs are in top shape for IVF, I'm focusing on the following dietary and nutritional strategies:

  • Supplements:

  • Anti-Inflammatory:

    • Cut down on sugar

    • Avoid fast food

    • Avoid junk food

    • Avoid desserts

    • Limit grains and flour

    • Control oily & spicy intake

    • Reduce coffee intake

  • Probiotics & Prebiotics:

    • Drink 50ml of kombucha daily for probiotics

    • Eat one banana daily for prebiotics

  • Hydration & Antioxidants:

    • 1 liter of Spritzer Mineral Water (Silica & Minerals)

    • 700ml of filtered water with 30ml of liquid chlorophyll

    • 500ml of filtered water with one scoop of energy drink

    • 1 teaspoon of mixed berries powder

    • 200ml of warm honey

    • 30ml of tonic (Honey Lemon Ginger Garlic ACV) for a healthy gut

  • Clean Diet:

    • Focus on more protein

    • Choose organic chicken

    • Increase intake of greens and fruits

    • Eat rice once daily

    • Early dinner before 8pm

Remember, these strategies are tailored to my needs and might not suit everyone. Always consult your doctor before starting any new supplements or major lifestyle changes.

Skincare

When preparing for fertility treatments like IVF, it's crucial to be mindful of the skincare products you use. Many common chemical ingredients in skincare can negatively impact your hormone balance and potentially harm egg development. Chemicals such as parabens, phthalates, and sulfates are known endocrine disruptors, meaning they can interfere with your body’s hormone production, which is key for healthy ovulation and egg quality. For instance, parabens (often used as preservatives) can mimic estrogen in the body, leading to hormonal imbalances. Phthalates, commonly found in fragrances, are also linked to reproductive issues. Opting for natural, non-toxic skincare products can help protect your hormonal health, supporting your fertility journey while keeping your skin healthy and radiant.

Exercise

For the next 90 days, my exercise routine will focus on building strength and maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle to improve my chances of IVF success. I plan to walk 10,000 steps daily and incorporate a brisk 5km walk to keep my body moving and my heart healthy. Each morning, I’ll do yoga or pilates at home to enhance flexibility and reduce stress. To build muscle and boost metabolism, I’ll also commit to weekly weight training sessions at the gym. This balanced routine will help me stay fit, energized, and ready for the journey ahead.

Weight Management

After an unsuccessful IUI procedure in March 2024, my weight jumped from 62 kg to 69 kg. Shocked by this, I’ve started a new diet and managed to lose 3 kg in 2 months. My goal is to lose 1-2 kg per month, aiming for an ideal weight of 60 kg.

Managing Stress

Working from home means less social interaction, so I’m actively managing stress by limiting exposure to negative social media and informing family and friends about my IVF preparation to minimize stress.

Spiritual

Adding a spiritual routine can help ease the journey, reduce stress, and strengthen hope that God is always listening. Each prayer is completed with wirid and zikr to maintain mindfulness and connection with God.

As I prepare for my IVF journey, I hope sharing my 90-day plan helps others who are on a similar path. Embracing these changes with patience and care can make a world of difference. Let’s support each other in this journey, breaking down barriers and finding strength in our shared experiences. Here’s to health, hope, and new beginnings!
